We make it a point in our household to prevent the regurgitation of false historical narratives about this holiday. Today I honor the Menominee, Ojibwe (Chippewa), Potawatomi, and Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) people. Who inhabited the land I live on, for over 10,000 years. They are still here today, fighting for their rights. I encourage you to learn about the rich history of tribes that inhabit, or historically inhabited, your area. Pay attention to your current local history and don’t be afraid to challenge how it is being told. We are ready to hold folks accountable. The future is transparency. We don’t need to glorify folks of the past that should have been held accountable for their actions. “Think global, act local.”
Note: I am super duper proud of the meal I cooked today. (TIP: I made everything but the bird yesterday).
