In the Major Arcana of the Tarot, the Hermit is the 9th card, and the theme of 2025. The year should be used to blend in, and keep subversive knowledge and insight very close. It is about going against the grain, but cautiously. Bring integrity, personal wisdom, and light, into each step you take forward. It is a year about not accepting what is given to us or offered to us, but envisioning something grander. Even if it doesn’t seem possible. This will help you discern how to use information and knowledge you have to share, so it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands. In the prior years we were asked to learn, seek wisdom, develop trust, and strengthen community. This year is a culmination of why we did all that groundwork, to stay strong in our knowledge. Take care of yourself and each other, keep your circles intentional. Free yourself from attachments. It will be the only way forward.
The Tarot’s Hermit is not our stereotypical human-hating shanty loner. Hermit is not focused on trying to reach those who are not listening, they are non-conforming and bracing for the inevitable. They face gaslighting, overwhelming external feedback, yet are evolved spiritually by reconnecting to the divine within. Even though you can feel or know a truth in your bones, everyone around you tells you otherwise because “show me the proof”. You may need to write down your thoughts, make a voice diary, start a vlog, or find a safe community where you can express things without judgement. Protect your identity and the information you make available to the public. If there are websites, books, or people you love hearing from, be sure you know how to stay in touch with them and support them.
This year is an alchemy of the past, present, and the future. Calling us to keep our spiritual protection strong and our eyes on the path ahead. The black cloak he wears symbolizes staying invisible or quiet, when the world around is loud and distracted. As you patiently put one foot in front of the other, you are secretly giving others hope.
Soon the things you may have tried to share with others, but didn’t have proof or receipts for, will be front and center. Validation is not everything this year, you may feel the need to walk alone. And that is ok sometimes. Many have had to walk this path before. But hold faith in change coming, you will be called forward to help the most vulnerable.
The Hermit will encourage people who haven’t caught up to go within, to rethink what they subscribed to in the ‘norm’, and your light will be needed to guide them. It also asks us to balance inequality in the masculine and the feminine, as the hermit is a sage of truth and justice. With each small step you take forward, your trust in the journey ahead will reflect wisdom in a spiritual path. I want to be clear that this card does not symbolize a religious path forward, this is a deeply personal, forward thinking, and spiritually enlightened path.
This card is influenced by astrological sign virgo and planet mercury, emphasizing a year of improving our critical thinking skills, better quality communication, focus, clarity, discernment, and decisiveness. I also believe we’ll see some truths surface from ancient folklore and creation myths, around planet Mercury based characters (Hermes, Thoth, Loki, etc) teach us something obvious, yet profound, which scientists confirm in the sky. Another thing that comes to mind is the Ojibwe belief that planet Mercury is a wolf track showing a wolf on its own unique path. I also think of the story of Mercury binding Prometheus. We need benevolent tricksters to bring us hope and humor this year.
Our throat chakras and third eyes will be activated. Telepathic communication is heightened, manifestation of our words is powerful, dreams do come true. This year our words are spells, so respect the power of your voice in 2025. Basic questions will be asked that haven’t been challenged in ages. How do we know that time is real? Who chose our calendar and why are we using it? What determines an education?
The elements tied to this card are that of earth energy. Spend time connecting with nature, the plants, the soil. Do you know how to grow your own food or forage? This might be a great year to learn.
Even in the chaos of this year, don’t ever forget that having fun is part of the plan.

It is the end of an era. People who work in fields of spirituality, medicine, measurements or data, archival practices, communication, and humanitarian causes, will all be called to step forward in their highest integrity this year. 2025 calls for selfless attitudes and a focus on better possibilities. A societal reset, if you will. Upholding diverse human experiences, freeing barriers to knowledge, and learning to course correct from past mistakes, could take us to where we are destined to go.

All in all, nine year is a number that tells us to stop observing things with the parameters we’ve been given, and that our measuring devices may be wrong or outdated. Think bigger, says a nine year. Artists, speakers, writers, poets, the time is now. Your vision is needed for what could be. You speak in languages that only emotions can interpret. Your dreams defined may be the necessary bridge to interrupt all of the misinformation and division sown by those in control. Start small in your own circle and community.
Collectively we are asked to surrender to a greater possibility, than what is offered this year. You may witness intense disruptive change, spiritual confusion, internal growth, and the opening for positive societal evolution. We are being called to honestly face our traumas and process unhappy memories, in order to find a sense of collective closure. This could signal continued global consciousness, and divine sovereignty, brought on by the collective. We could see exposure of fraud, immense theft, a secret side of war, or something that has been consistently hidden from history. We may mourn nostalgia, and be in our thoughts often. But if we work to keep ourselves healthy and grounded, those who keep their eyes forward will help manifest the outcome. If you dream it for the good of all, we can manifest it.
